Search Engine Marketing

It is a common misconception among web site managers that submitting your site's name to hundreds of search engines will result in thousands of visitors to your site.  This is not true, even with submitting to the large search engines, submitting alone is not enough.

When someone enters a keyword related to your site's products or services, does your site appear in the top ten matches or does your competition?  Studies have shown that when searching, most people don't go past the first or second pages of a search engine response.

This is a problem for many companies, and there are two obstacles to solving this problem.  You must first know what techniques will move you into a top ten position on a search engine.  Once you are in a top ten position, you must be able to monitor your progress.  Another aspect of search engine marketing that may often times be overlooked is preparing your server to be able to handle a major increase in traffic. Tens of millions of people turn every day to the major search engines in search of  products, services, information,-- almost anything.  A top ten position in a major search engine like Google, Altavista, Lycos, or Askjeeves, will many times generate more specific, targeted traffic than an expensive banner advertising campaign.  A good search engine position is like highly targeted advertising, except it is both FREE AND EFFECTIVE!
